A
little history
After the First World War, in a spirit of reconciliation and international
bringing together, the International Youth Workcamp were born in Europe
and France. After the war of 39-45, new associations were created, gathering
volunteers of all nationalities around concrete labours and collective
utility to contribute to the rebuilding of country and for the European
reconciliation.
Today,
as the society, the International Youth Workcamp have changed but their
values remain : support the meeting and the exchanges between young people, developped
an international solidarity, carry out useful projects for the community,
to design the building site in a teaching dimension which concerns a popular
step of education.
The
International Youth Workcamp is a privileged place of meetings between
young people
of all social origins and very different cultures. Without reference to
religious, social or political command, they take part voluntarily in
the realization of a work.
The
International Youth Workcamp brings to discover the others people.
A training of the life the building site allows the training of the citizenship
by the catch of responsibility in the collective tasks (work, leisures,
meal…).
It
gives the possibility of discovering practical activities, techniques
and know-how that each one can réapproprier in his personal and professional
life; but it is not a place of vocational training.
An
International Youth Workcamp is ...
A
concrete work.You
can arrange a room for young people, a reception centre, restore a monument
or an old castle, to mark out paths, to take part in archaeological excavations…
the International Youth Workcamp fall under a local dynamics and work
for the general interest. Teaching and technical persons in charge ensure
the framing on the ground. Sports activities and cultural generally supplement
the stays.
A
voluntary step:
the International Youth Workcamp can develop only with young volunteers.
It is very important that the young people themselves choose this kind
of holidays and the project on which they will work.
A place for collective life : the
International Youth Workcamp is open on the life of a village
in link with the local environment. It is the strong time of an associative
project. It allows the restoration of a site, the installation of a framework
of life, the revalorization of a place and its re-use by its inhabitants
within the framework of the local development. The group organizes its
stay and its operation. Throughout stay, each one takes part in all the
tasks of the everyday life: organization of work, preparation of the meals,
management of a budget
And in ELLIANT...
